Shows closed on a Tuesday are Back to the Future The Musical, Disney’s Frozen The Musical, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Magic Mike Live.
Matinees are afternoon performances and times vary depending on the show. Matinees are typically on Wednesdays or Thursdays, and Saturdays, with some shows now adding more matinees during the week, especially around half terms and holidays.
These musicals have matinee peformances on Wednesday and Saturday at 14:30: Disney’s The Lion King, Hadestown, Hamilton, Hello, Dolly!, Les Misérables, The Devil Wears Prada, The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked.

Evening performances of shows in the West End usually start at 19:30, with doors opening at theatres from 18:30 onward. There can be some variations on this, so it is best to check your ticket for earlier or later start times.
London and West End shows vary on length, depending whether it is a play or musical, or if it has an interval. Standard running time can be from 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes, so it is best to check the information on running times for the specific show you have booked.
Intervals are usually between 15 and 20 minutes.
Views are different depending on where you sit in a London theatre. The Stalls are usually on the ground floor, and offer the best, closest views of the stage.
The Dress Circle or Royal Circle is usually the middle level, or top level in smaller theatres, and gives you a top-down view of the stage, which is great for musicals and big dance numbers. Boxes are usually located at Dress Circle height.
The Grand Circle is typically the highest tier in the theatre, but you can usually access seats at great prices. Be aware that legroom may be limited in these sections.
Most London theatres will allow one small bag to place under your seat. You will be advised not to bring large bags to venues, but each theatre will have its own policy. If you are planning on bringing more than a rucksack or handbag, it is best to check with the theatre you are visiting.
London’s West End is located in central London, west of the City of London and generally makes up the areas around Leicester Square and Covent Garden. There are over 39 theatres in the West End, located on various streets across the city.
The most famous street is Shaftesbury Avenue, with the Apollo Theatre, Lyric Theatre, Gielgud Theatre, Sondheim Theatre, home to Les Misérables, and Magic Mike Live’s Hippodrome Casino Theatre all on one street, with the Piccadilly Theatre and Criterion Theatre nearby at Piccadilly Circus.
In Covent Garden is the Duke of York’s Theatre, Noël Coward Theatre, Gillian Lynne Theatre, the Lyceum Theatre, which is home to Disney’s The Lion King, plus TINA’s Aldwych Theatre and the Novello Theatre with MAMMA MIA!. Further theatres include the London Coliseum, Fortune Theatre, Duchess Theatre, Trafalgar Theatre, and the West End’s oldest theatre, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, which houses Disney’s Frozen The Musical until September 2024. Matilda The Musical also plays at Cambridge Theatre in Seven Dials.
In Leicester Square you can find the Prince of Wales Theatre, home to The Book of Mormon, the Garrick Theatre, the Arts Theatre, Wyndham’s Theatre, St Martin’s Theatre, the Ambassadors Theatre and Palace Theatre, hosting Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
There are also multiple theatres on The Strand, which is close by to Charing Cross and Embankment. SIX The Musical plays at the Vaudeville Theatre, with the Adelphi Theatre and Savoy Theatre nearby. The Playhouse Theatre, currently The Kit Kat Club, is located on Embankment.
Further afield you can find Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre, near to Victoria Station, and The London Palladium on Argyll Street, close to Oxford Circus. Haymarket features The Phantom of the Opera’s His Majesty’s Theatre, plus Theatre Royal Haymarket and the Harold Pinter Theatre.
More theatre just outside of the West End include the Barbican Theatre at Barbican, the National Theatre and The Old Vic near Waterloo, plus Phoenix Theatre, Prince Edward Theatre, Dominion Theatre, Shaftesbury Theatre and @sohoplace near Soho and Tottenham Court Road. The Bridge Theatre is located at London Bridge.
Most London theatres offer disabled and access-friendly facilities. All access bookings must be made directly with the theatre.
