Mood Music depends on your mood

It never really grips; a few humorous lines, but on the whole, rather boring. The main characters Irish accent fluctuates and the others just leave you cold. You feel unable to support anyone.

Brilliant show. I loved the interplay of artists, lawyers and therapists.
Ben Chaplin fantastic as the successful narcissist we loved to hate.
Super window on the music industry dealing with power, control and mysogony.
Highly recommend.

Enjoyable night at the Old Vic. Mood Music is well worth going to see. It has more laughs than I expected too! Ben Chaplin and Neil Stuke hit all the right notes with their performances. Because of the strength and charisma of their performances I am giving it an extra star. As someone who has worked in the music business for over 20 years, the story didn't ring true, I found it sleight and well mannered (and I probably rooted for the wrong characters!). There were errors and a faulty premise but I understand that is a fiction so these are forgiven. It was too polite though, and the story sleight, I hate to admit it but there is more drama to be made out of the average week in my day job than I saw on stage. Do go though, it's worth it for Neil Stuke who lights up the stage and his character was the most reallistic. If I knew nothing about that world then I would have enjoyed it more. BTW, the constant intake of fluids, be it water or coffee or booze - spot on!

I wasn't sure whether to hit the male lead or shake the female and tell her to get a grip! Very topical and well acted. Not sure I could cope with working in the music business!

Taught me some lessons about Grumpy Old Men!

This play really did stir a lot of emotions - reminded me of some difficult relationships with people who will never change - and an understanding of how the music industry works, people fall out and the cost of freedom! Jolly good show!

Fast paced and so relevant to todays women's movement.

Not sure what to expect but that is sometimes a good thing as you have no preconceived ideas or notions. The play was really fast paced, full of humour and innuendo's. Ben Chaplin was amazing.

Saw an early preview so it will "bed in" a bit but the performances were focussed and true and I even bought the playtext! Old Vic is always a good bet.

Sharp, funny and contemporary

Really enjoyed Mood Music. It's tells a highly plausible story of a collaboration between a middle-aged male music producer and a young female songwriter who both, in their own ways, can lay claim to having written a big hit song. The play is very cleverly staged with multiple scenes and conversations occurring almost simultaneously but this works well in developing the characters and keeping the narrative moving at an engaging pace. The story is not a black and white case of anyone being completely in the wrong and so does not seek to preach at the audience. Strong, believable and engaging characters and many memorable, laugh out loud lines. Highly enjoyable, especially if you have a passing interest in the music business.

Immaculate performance
29 April 2018
A cast of six delivered faultless performances in this modern day drama about gender inequalities. Set amidst the ego driven music industry, the chauvinistic male character was eminently watchable even though on one level he was loathsome he was also thought provoking and funny - he was far from one dimensional. That said all the performances from very talented actors were well defined and immaculate. The set and staging were excellent. Overall the production was very enjoyable and I would recommend it without hesitation. The Old Vic at its best.

Really enjoyed this fast, witty, production, the timing and delivery of the insightful dialogue by each performer was superb.
The minimalistic staging helped focus attention to the acting.
It could’ve been a wee bit shorter, hence the 4 not 5 * rating, but strongly recommend this at, the always wonderful, Old Vic !
