Find EventsFilm4 Summer Screen: Straight Outta Compton (cert 15)
Beginning in the mid-80s, the film shows how five young men from the violent, gang-torn city of Compton in south LA – by the names of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, Eazy-E and DJ Yella – brought a revolutionary new sound and style to the burgeoning hip hop scene with the creation of gangsta rap.
By reflecting their own lives and experiences with brutal honesty and setting their uncensored words to equally confrontational beats, the group were an instant hit with fans but considered a menace to society by the authorities.
Blockbuster director F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job; Men in Black International) captures the fast-paced excitement of the group’s ascent, with the drama super-charged by all of N.W.A.’s hits; and the twists and turns in the characters’ fortunes keep the story compelling and highly emotional right to the final beat. In short, “you’re about to witness the strength of street knowledge”.
There are audio-described headsets available for this screening. If you would like to request a headset, please contact the Box Office.
