A young and rebellious Rupert Murdoch asks the impossible and launches Larry Lamb’s (The Sun’s first editor) quest: to give the people what they want. No matter the cost. The play is set in 1969 and charts the rise of The Sun – the newest tabloid on Fleet Street – and how the unorthodox changes made then have shaped our newspapers today.
Following a sell-out season at the Almeida, Ink, written by James Graham (This House) and directed by Rupert Goold (King Charles III), transfers to the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited season. With a cast featuring Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster, Matilda) and Richard Coyle (The Associate, The Lover), this ruthless, red-topped new play leads with the birth of this country’s most influential newspaper.

The nearest Tube stations are Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly lines) and Charing Cross (Bakerloo and Northern lines).
Leicester Square: From the station head north up Charing Cross Road and take the first right onto Long Acre. When the road intersects with Upper St. Martin's Lane turn left. The theatre is a two minute walk away down the road.
Charing Cross: See the directions in the 'Train' section above.Bus: There are plenty of buses operating in this area.
For the Strand take buses: 6, 9, 11, 15, 23, 91 and 139.
For Charing Cross take the 24, 29, 47, 176.

Arrive early, buy and read the detailed programme for clear help with the background story, and then enjoy even more this very fast moving and excitingly delivered account of the moment Murdoch ambitiously grabbed a huge slice of the journalistic market, to the massive detriment of British journalism. Compelling performances throughout clearly give a key and still highly significant account of the moments when standards sunk. Dennis Potter called his Cancer "Rupert" - see this fine production to understand why.
